NARRATIVE DESCRIPTION OF PROJECT:
This project required the supply, installation and commissioning of a wireless digital CCTV urban surveillance system, which integrates with the SSU Metro Police Control Centre at N1 House, N1 City. The system consists of 8 surveillance cameras and makes use of a high-speed digital IP network for all signal transmission. The cameras are installed on 12m metal masts which are used for CCTV installations throughout Cape Town.
The communications infrastructure consists of multiple point to point wireless LAN systems and connects at Mannenberg Police Station into an existing fibre optic cable that forms the backbone of the Cape Town CCTV network.
The Control Centre equipment consists of a networked digital video recording system to store the video footage and an evidence review station with monitors and control keyboards to view the live
video streams. Network switches enable communication between the cameras and the various components of the system which is managed by an integrated video management system. The existing control room was adapted to accommodate the new consoles.
