NARRATIVE DESCRIPTION OF PROJECT:
TTA was appointed as sub-consultants to CA du Toit assisting with the design and contract supervision of the new fire detection installation in the Tyger Valley Shopping Centre as part of the
MDP Phase1 project. During the project all of the public spaces in the Centre as well as many of the line shops were revamped and modernized and in accordance with local laws a complaint fire detection system had to be installed into these areas.
CA du Toit was responsible for the contractor’s tender and appointment while TTA was appointed for the detail system design and implementation supervision. All installed smoke detectors, break glass units and other devices are connected to multiple control panels located centrally in the security control room which is manned 24 hours a day. Certain line shops, such as Game and Dion’s Wired, required individual control panels located in the shops in accordance with their lease agreements. Alarms from these remote panels were also linked back to the central control room for monitoring.
The fire alarm system is integrated with the emergency public address system as well as the smoke extract system. In case of a fire the public address system will broadcast pre-recorded messages for patrons to evacuate a section of the Centre while the smoke extract system will engage to keep the escape pathways clear of hazardous smoke.
