NARRATIVE DESCRIPTION OF PROJECT:
When Vinimark, The Wine Company, decided to build a large new facility for the existing Strand distribution center, they approached CA du Toit and TTA through HKQS for the fire, mechanical, electrical and electronic professional services.
This new facility in Klapmuts is their third newly constructed distribution center in three years, consisting of 10 000 m2 including 1000 m2 office space. Based on their experiences from the previous facilities they approached us with both solutions that they liked and solutions for which they wanted better alternatives. TTA was appointed for the design, specification and management of the implementation for all the electronic building services.
A CCTV system incorporating Bosch and Axis cameras on a Milestone VMS, including remote access for monitoring purposes, was installed. The CCTV system covers key areas inside the building and all outside areas.
The biometric access control system was implemented on nearly every door in the building, using a variety of biometric readers. Selected cages inside the warehouse was also incorporated in the access control system, and IP video intercoms were installed at key locations. A separate portable biometric system was incorporated to assist the guards at the gatehouses with controlling access and keeping record of all personnel on site. As part of the access control solution traffic access barriers were installed at all three vehicle entrances, with control using pushbuttons, remotes, and the biometric access control system. Three full height turnstiles were also installed, again controlled using the biometric access control system.
TTA managed the installation of 5 separate intruder alarm systems, providing coverage of the office area, warehouse, and four rentable warehouse spaces, with remote monitoring for the client and security company.
The boardroom was equipped with an audiovisual solution, including projector, amplifier, speakers, DSTV, Blu-ray player, radio and a Control4 control system. Using HDMI over CAT6 technology a Leaf matrix switcher was implemented to display video from either the boardroom or a second DSTV decoder on any of the four 55’ Smart TV’s installed in the office area. Input to these TV’s can be controlled locally or via the boardroom’s control system.
For the public address system two audio zones was created – inside and outside the warehouse. It is integrated with the VoIP system, allowing the warehouse staff to make announcements from anywhere on the premises using their DECT phones. To further assist with communication from inside the warehouse to the outside a scrolling LED board was also installed.
Working with a client who knows what they want, an excellent professional team and a great Main Contractor lead to this being a smooth project with good teamwork and very few hitches.
